As Rick Santorum parted with the 2012 Election on Wednesday, I couldn’t help but wonder what ever happened with Spreading Santorum. If you recall, the site appeared at the top of Santorum searches before his election began, and it wasn’t very flattering either. In fact, the site was created as an attack on Santorum’s anti-gay beliefs, donning a Santorum as “the frothy mixture of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the by-product of anal sex.” Gross, right?
But after an entire campaign and expert SEO efforts, where has the site fallen to now? Turns out, even the best reputation management tactics can’t fend off a thriving site like Spreading Santorum. I also wouldn’t be surprised if the site’s publishers did the best they could to put up a fierce battle. The site has moved down in results, though it has not gone away. In a search for “Santorum,” the site places third and a search for “Rick Santorum” ranks it at the 6th spot. There’s also something else the campaign failed to clean up:
Let’s hope he has better luck in 2016.
